There’s a new statewide effort to deal with mental health and kids.
Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin wants to create universal screenings, and give families easy access to care.
CEO Peggy Troy is concerned that it can take one month to one year for kids to get treatment. She says that’s led to unresolved mental health issues, and it’s a reason Wisconsin youth suicide rate is one of the highest in the country.
Children’s Hospital will also try to reduce the stigma about mental health.
The health care provider believes it will cost about $150 million to put the initiative in place over the next five years.
