Appleton’s city council could go on record, supporting a nonpartisan redistricting process.
Council President Kyle Lobner says 13 of the 15 members agree. He believes redistricting should ensure fair representation at the state and national government levels, and not be a a tool to consolidate power.
Lobner points to an advisory referendum in Outagamie County in 2018, to show the community agrees. Seventy-two percent supported a nonpartisan map of district boundaries.
Governor Evers plans to create a nonpartisan redistricting task force to put together a proposed map. The Legislature is in charge of creating the map.
