Appleton has a new mayor for the first time in 24 years.
Jake Woodford took the oath of office at last night’s city council meeting.
Since he was elected earlier this month, Woodford says he’s been getting updates from the emergency operations center and department leaders. He wants to make sure he’s up to speed on what’s happening with ongoing projects, and most importantly, what the city is doing in response to COVID-19.
Woodford was a special assistant to the president of Lawrence University when he was elected earlier this month. He defeated former city council member Jim Clemons.
Last night’s council meeting was the first since 1996 that former Mayor Tim Hanna wasn’t the city’s leader.
