Many nonprofit groups around northeast Wisconsin and the state had to cut staff and lost volunteers, during the pandemic.
UW-Green Bay asked almost 550 organizations across Wisconsin, and about 150 locally, about the impacts.
Associate Professor Lora Warner says more than half had to let go of staff, and 80 percent had fewer volunteers in April.
About 75 percent are concerned about serving and reaching the most vulnerable, and around half report they’re delivering fewer services to people needing the most help.
Warner thinks northeast Wisconsin is doing something right, since about one-third of nonprofits are collaborating. That’s compared to 25 percent statewide.
