The head of Wisconsin’s sturgeon program is accused of lying to investigators looking into an egg selling scheme. Ryan Koenigs is charged in Calumet County Court with one misdemeanor count of Resisting a Conservation Warden. According to the criminal complaint, Koenigs told D-N-R wardens that he did not know about other department personnel telling spearers at registration stations that they were collecting eggs for research–when in fact the eggs were being given to processors in exchange for free caviar. Koenigs now claims the eggs were used for research purposes before going to the processors. He will make his initial appearance in court on March 29th.
