The Winnebago County District Attorney’s office will not file a complaint against the Oshkosh School Board for violations of the state’s open meetings laws. The Wisconsin Transparency Project filed a complaint with the D-A after the August 25th board meeting–which saw members leave to the Superintendent’s office when protesters would not put on facemasks. A decision to cancel the meeting was made in that other room–and board members left the district office building. Deputy D-A Eric Sparr says Board President Bob Poeschl told him that no discussion took place behind closed doors about board business or canceling the meeting. Sparr adds that filing of a complaint would not be the appropriate way to address the issue of potential non-compliance with the law. The Transparency Project could still take the School Board to court in a civil matter.
