A new northside middle school in Oshkosh will likely be named for a Suffragette. Jessie Jack Hooper was the top vote-getter in two rounds of public voting on a new name for the school that will open in 2023. Hooper worked to get women the vote in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Two other suggestions will still be incorporated into the school. A “STEM” academy will be named after E-A-A founder Paul Poberezny–while the media center will be named in honor of former Wisconsin Secretary of State Vel Phillips. The Oshkosh School Board will vote on the naming plan on Wednesday.
