UPDATE: Appleton Police have a suspect in custody in connection with a threat that led to lockdowns at a number of schools in the city today (Monday). At 11:45 this morning, police got a call from a parent concerned about her 15-year old son–who had been involved in a fight with other Appleton students on Sunday night and was making threats to retaliate. He left the residence before officers arrived. Schools that were placed in lockdown while officers searched for the suspect included both West and North high schools, Wilson Middle School, and Columbus, Edison, and Dunlap elementaries. The teen was taken into custody at 2:00 this afternoon and will be referred for juvenile charges.

(Original story) Several Appleton schools are on lockdown due to a “situation in the community.”
The Appleton Area School District says the lockdown includes: Appleton Central Program – AASD/DSA, Columbus Elementary School, Appleton Bilingual School, Edison Elementary School, Appleton, Wilson Raiders Middle School, Appleton West High School, Appleton North High School, Christian Cooperative Preschool, and Community Nursery School, Kaleidoscope Academy, Dunlap Elementary.
“During a precautionary lockdown, we secure the building and continue with class. We are currently working with the APD to ensure the safety of all staff and students. Parents and families should not come to the schools at this time or call as we are trying to keep the phone lines open. Doors will remain locked,” reads a statement from the district.
At 11:50 a.m., the district received a call from the police department about a situation in the community.
The district apologized for a delay in communication to families.
“Infinite Campus, our mass notification system is malfunctioning. We will keep this post updated. We continue to work closely with APD on this developing situation,” the district says.
