Ukrainians in Northeast Wisconsin say they can feel the support of the community.
“Thank you for the prayers, the kind words and the recognition of what’s happening,” shared Jonathan Plyypiv. “We feel it. We’re grateful.”
Jonathan Plyypiv created the Wisconsin Ukrainians Facebook page in 2014. He was born in Ukraine and came to the United States in 1992.
Plyypiv shared that he has family and friends in Ukraine who he has reconnected with in recent years. During a visit in 2014, he shared how much Ukraine had changed since he was a child.
“It felt like watching the Wizard of Oz. I left and it felt like it was in black and white. When I returned in 2014 it was this beautiful color,” Jonathan shared. “The streets were clean, there was just so much pride in the culture.”
The Wisconsin Ukrainians Facebook page and Ukrainian Cultural School of Green Bay families are collaborating to help collect items to help the Ukrainian people in their defense of Ukraine. You can find a link to that here.

A peace rally will be held in Houdini Plaza in Appleton on Friday. Appleton Ukrainians Rally To Support Ukraine starts at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 4.
Jonathan shares another way to support Ukraine would be to wear blue and yellow or to put a blue and yellow paper in your window.
