APPLETON, WI — Two monkeypox cases are now confirmed in Appleton. The Appleton Health Department says the first case of orthopoxvirus, which is presumed to be monkeypox, was confirmed July 21. A second unrelated case was confirmed a day later. Appleton Health Officer Dr. Charles Sepers reminds residents there is a low risk for community transmission. He says intimate person-to-person contact with someone who has visible symptoms remains the most common form of transmission. The Appleton Health Department is working with local, state and federal health officials to monitor the situations.
