OSHKOSH, Wis. — Merrill school in Oshkosh will be torn down after students move into the new Vel Phillips Middle School two years from now.
The Oshkosh school board votes unanimously to demolish Merrill, despite efforts from a grassroots group to have it saved for future redevelopment.
Superintendent Bryan Davis says keeping the old building in place would have denied Vel Phillips students access to the same spaces provided to other kids across the district:
The district will commit up to $50,000 to erect a monument to Merrill school on its old site following demolition.
