APPLETON, Wis–An arrest is made in connection with a cold case murder in Outagamie County dating back to 1988. Gene Meyer of Washington state is charged with First Degree Murder and First Degree Sexual Assault in the death of Betty Rolf.
Rolf’s body was found under West Spencer Street near Appleton. She had also been sexually assaulted. Rolf had disappeared while walking to work in that area.
Meyer is originally from Valders–but had moved to Washington state. The Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office says familial D-N-A collected from the crime scene led them to Meyer as a suspect.
He would face life in prison if convicted. Meyer is currently being held in Washington while awaiting extradition back to Wisconsin.
