GREEN BAY, Wis. — A federal lawsuit is filed against the City of Neenah for violation notices for a couple posting signs in opposition to the sale of a middle school property.
The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty files the suit on behalf of Tim and Megan Florek. They received a letter from the city charging them with violating the city’s sign ordinance.
Penalties for violations run from $500 for the first offense and $1,000 for each subsequent offense.
WILL says the city’s actions violate the Floreks’ first amendment rights.
The sign was put up in protest of the Neenah School District’s plan to sell the Shattuck Middle School property to a developer. The Shattuck school is closing at the end of the school year, and middle school operations will move into the current high school building, which is being replaced by a new high school.
