Money in politics is one of the most widely discussed topics in the political arena. More often than not, people can often times identify the influence of money when it is on the other side of the political spectrum, but in order to truly make progress issue, we need to move past partisanship. It is my belief that we can never truly have a representative government as long as corporations and the wealthiest people among us can easily tip the scales in their favor.
Citizen’s United is the major court ruling that has opened the door for large dollar donations, under the protections of freedom of speech. Most people know about Citizen’s United, but most people are unaware that “We the People” have the ability to change this decision
I was joined earlier today by George Penn, the Outreach Manager with Wisconsin United to Amend to discuss what the organization is doing to try and combat the effects of large donations in politics, and how you can get involved to help make a difference.
