There are very few things that are more important to a child’s development than learning in a fun, safe, and engaging environment. Trust me, I used to be one.
Unfortunately for public schools in Wisconsin, they have seen their funding frozen over the course of the last couple years, leaving big gaps between the amount of funds available and the amount of funds necessary to educate a student.
People that are in favor of seeing the public school system in Wisconsin strengthened believe that the time to invest in our children is while we have an over 7 billion dollar surplus available to the state.
I chatted with Appleton School Board member, Jim Bowman, and the Director of Digital Organizing and Communications with the Wisconsin Public Education Network, Christian Phelps, about how the school system ended up operating with a deficit, and what they hope to see change before a new budget is agreed upon in June.
