APPLETON, Wis–Questions are being raised as to the accuracy of research done to support No Mow May in Appleton. At Wednesday night’s Common Council meeting, Alder Chad Doran introduced a resolution that called into question the research paper published by fellow Alder Israel Del Toro, an Associate Professor of Biology at Lawrence University, that claimed more bees were found in local yards that did not cut their grass for the month.
That study has now been retracted by the website that first published it, Peer J, citing issues with the research methods and discrepancies in data collected in the field and data presented in the study. Doran says other research shows just the opposite…………..
WHBY News has reached out to Alder Del Toro, who sent a written response that he will address the retraction of his study at Monday’s Municipal Services Committee meeting.
Last year, the Appleton Common Council voted to make No Mow May a permanent part of the ordinance regulating the appearances of lawns.
