APPLETON, Wis. — The major remodeling of the Appleton Public Library can finally get underway.
The Appleton Common Council approves construction bids not to exceed $40 million for the library project. The city will borrow $26 million and add in $2 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds.
The Friends of the Appleton Public Library group will have to contribute the remaining $12 million. They’ve raised $8 million so far, and that has Alder Sheri Hartzheim concerned about going forward with the project at this time…
But Alder Kristin Alfheim is confident that donors will come through…
The Appleton library project was paused late last year after initial bids came in $14 million over budget, forcing the removal of some features and amenities.
