APPLETON, WI — The Appleton School District clarifies a Freshmen Meet and Greet Scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at Appleton East High School. That follows a report from the conservative legal group Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty that the event was limited to students of color. WILL also demanded the event be open to all incoming freshmen. In a statement released by the district to Appleton East 9th graders and their families…”the intent of the Freshmen Meet and Greet with the East Cultural Advisor emphasized the event is open, and has always been open, to all incoming 9th-grade Appleton East students and their families.” The district says the clarification was issued last week to Appleton East High School families. The district also reminded families that there are four additional opportunities designed to help incoming ninth graders prepare for the new school year and meet with staff.
