OSHKOSH, Wis. — Erik Metzig will get a psychological examination in connection with the shooting deaths of his parents last March.
That follows Metzig entering a plea of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.
Metzig’s parents, David and Jan Metzig, were found dead by Erik’s brother in their Wolf River home. A gun was found on a kitchen counter and another in a garbage can in the garage. Police say they also found red smears they believed to be blood in Metzig’s car. A journal was also found in his bedroom with writings that he wanted to eliminate his parents and make it look like they disappeared.
Metzig is being held on a $1 million cash bond on two charges of first-degree intentional homicide. He’s back in Winnebago County Court on Nov. 6.
