GRAND CHUTE, Wis. — One person is dead and two others are hurt after a police chase results in a crash in Grand Chute.
Officers were called to the Fleet Farm on W. Wisconsin Avenue around 2:10 p.m. Wednesday on the report of a retail theft in progress.
Upon arrival they encountered the suspect, who drove off at a high rate of speed.
The suspect lost control of the vehicle, struck another vehicle at the intersection of Bluemound and Woodman drives and crashed into a tree. Life-saving measures were attempted but were unsuccessful.
The two people in the other vehicle were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The officer who pursued the suspect has been placed on administrative leave per department policy.
The state Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation.
