GRAND CHUTE, Wis. — The results are in and Hayley Tenpas’ Gyro Waffle Fries have been chosen as this year’s Food Fight winner.
The winning recipe of waffle fries topped with diced tomato, kalamata olives, feta cheese, gyro meat, and tzatziki sauce edged out four additional finalists selected out of 83 submissions. In a very close vote, Gyro Waffle edged out the other finalists in voting that ended on Sunday.
The Gyro Waffle Fries will be available in the third base main concessions stand at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium this season. The 2024 Wisconsin Timber Rattlers season begins with a game on Friday, April 5.
Gyro Waffle Fries joins an elite group of previous eight winners of past food fights: The Show Sandwich, Almighty Pork Sandwich, the Dinger Dog, the Grilled Cheese Chicken Sandwich, Rattler Bites, Buffalo Chicken Egg Rolls, Jalapeño Popper Grilled Cheese Sandwich, and Sweet-Salty-Savory Burger.

The finalists are in for this year’s Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Food Fight contest!
The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers received 83 appetizer recipes from fans who used a base of waffle fries, tater tots, or cheese curds as entries for the 2024 Food Fight. The winning recipe will be available at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium this season.
Once again, Woodward Community Media has a contestant in the running.
Hayley Tenpas, host of Focus Fox Valley on WHBY submitted the Gyro Waffle Fries, a pile of crispy waffle fries topped with diced tomato, kalamata olives, feta cheese, gyro meat, and tzatziki sauce.
“I felt the waffle fries were a perfect, sturdy base for all those delicious gyro toppings,” shared Tenpas. “You dip your fries in the tzatziki sauce anyways, so why not combine the two?”
Hayley has tough competition this year, with sweet and savory items also looking for votes.
- Loaded Jerk Chicken Waffle Fries – Waffle fries topped with chopped Jamaican Jerk chicken, green onions, and drizzled with Jerk & creamy lime sauce. Submitted by Alex Sobal from Appleton.
- Nashville Chicken Waffle Fries – Popcorn chicken tossed in Nashville hot sauce served on a bed of waffle fries drizzled with honey syrup. Submitted by Lindsey Rietveld from Neopit.
- Philly Cheesesteak Tots – Tater tots covered in Philly meat, onions, mushrooms, and peppers. Smothered with Gehl’s nacho cheese sauce and topped with bacon bits. Submitted by Thomas Mielke from Appleton.
- S’mores Tots – Crispy tater tots coated with cinnamon sugar topped with Chocolate syrup, chocolate chunks, graham cracker, and mini marshmallows on top. Submitted by Sarah Hayden from Appleton.
Voting is open through Sunday, March 10. The winner will be revealed in a video on the Timber Rattlers YouTube and Facebook pages at noon on Tuesday, March 12.
Last year, ‘The Show Sandwich,’ named after The Show with Leo & Balky, won the Food Fight crown. Their sandwich featured a fried chicken breast with cheddar cheese and cherry jam.
