NEENAH, Wis–Former Neenah Mayor, and state lawmaker, Dean Kaufert is looking to get back into politics. Kaufert has launched an exploratory committee for a potential return to the state Assembly.
Kaufert is considering a run in the newly-drawn 53rd District, where incumbent Mike Schraa of Oshkosh was drawn out of the district by Governor Tony Evers. Kaufert served in the 55th Assembly District from 1991 to 2014, when he left office and ran for Mayor of Neenah, a position he held until 2022.
He expects to make a final decision on the Assembly run by the end of the week.
