Dave Edwards and It’s Just my Take, 5-30-24
A man, who battled alcohol and mental health issues in his life, took that same life this past weekend. Not much attention would have been paid to it had it not been PGA Tour Pro Grayson Murray.
Murray’s life appeared to be on an upswing having won his second tour event earlier this year in Hawaii, recently became engaged and had loving parents and friends who kept an eye on him. Until last weekend.
After withdrawing from the PGA event in Texas, Grayson took his own life in the hours after his Friday round. His tour friends and playing partners were stunned, as some of them admitted he seemed to be smiling more and was in his own words “8 months sober”. That positive momentum fell short in a tragic way, and at the young age of 30.
Most of us are unlikely to understand the depths of what Grayson was feeling.
We are in the waning days of Mental Health Awareness Month, but the effort to understand and treat this condition cannot flag. What makes us have suicidal thoughts, why do we break down and cry for no reason, what is causing a good day to become tragic in just moments? Tough questions that may have just as tough answers.
Rest in peace Grayson.
