Green Bay reaches City Hall recordings settlement

GREEN BAY, WI — The City of Green Bay will pay $200,000 to settle the case of undisclosed recordings at City Hall. The settlement agreement is announced in a news release from State Senator Devin LeMahieu’s office. According to the statement, the $200,000 will cover legal fees brought by plaintiffs in the case. The City of Green Bay issues a statement regarding the settlement. It says (quote) “The City Council has barred the Office of the Mayor from unilaterally implementing a policy of undisclosed audio-and-video surveillance of City Hall. Mayor Genrich and the City Council as presently constituted agree not to renew the prior surveillance policy. Mayor Genrich further agrees that any audio/video surveillance policy that he might in the future propose would require approval from the City Council to take effect.” (unquote). The city reached a separate 100-thousand dollar settlement with another plaintiff in this case. Mayor Genrich initially stated the recording system was put in place as a security precaution. The news release from Senator LeMahieu says in all the case has cost the City of Green Bay over $500,000.
