So, how’s your slippery week going? 11-22-24
If your car slipped off the road yesterday and you couldn’t get a tow for hours, I can guess how your week is going.
Every year we deal with the opening snow event of the season. No, not a half-inch dusting this time—a full blown, wet snow, 40 mph blast from the north! True to form, we get several slide offs that may or may not have been anyone’s fault. That said, any time spent in a ditch is NO fun, plus there was a tow ban in effect, so you had to say goodbye to your ride for a good share of the day.
The traffic flow is often not up to you…the pack goes a certain speed and you try to keep up for fear of getting run over. Then, you see brake lights. Uh oh. You slam, you spin. You ease onto the brake pad and the yahoo behind you could ram right into you. And forget about keeping a safe following distance!
I have noted how increasingly fast the flow tends to be these days, dry pavement or not. Too many people in too damn big of a hurry! It seems trite to have to harp, but…just slow down. Getting there in one piece a moment or two slower sure beats a day ruined by a wreck or having your slacks or outfit ruined while standing knee deep in the ditch.
Now, about the use of signals, or lack thereof….
