OSHKOSH, Wis–The Oshkosh Area School District continues to see large achievement gaps between white and minority students. Results from last spring’s Forward Exams administered by the state show white students in Oshkosh continue to greatly outperform their minority counterparts.
In reading, 57% of white students rated as “proficient”–while just 12% of Black students reached that same level.
In math, the proficiency gap was 58% for whites and 10% for Blacks.
School Board member Molly Smiltneek says that is not acceptable………….
Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Samuel Coleman says the district is taking steps to address those scores……….
Comparison of Forward Exam results cannot be made year to year, as the standards for proficiency were changed this year.
