Your family Christmas tree could become a helpful tool to area nature preserves.
If you’re looking to support wildlife initiatives, consider donating to the following!
Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary is collecting clean trees for the captive animals!
- Stop in the Observation Building any time between 8a and 4:30pm to talk with staff where to drop the tree off.
Bubolz Nature Preserve is collecting trees from the community to be used for Winter Survival Programs with school-aged kids visiting Bubolz this winter!
- Trees can be dropped off anytime at the starred location on the map. Please remove all decorations before dropping your tree off.
Heckrodt Wetland Reserve uses trees for our winter programs both on-site and traveling to schools.
- Please drop off your tree by the birch tree near the Lopas Building, the purple X on the map! (Only Christmas trees please. Remove all the lights and decorations. No Christmas porch decorations or wreaths)
You can also use your tree to support wildlife in your own backyards.
“Once cleaned of ornaments and garland and tinsel, place the tree outside as a wind barrier for wildlife. If you add some suet and seed and a heated water dish, then you will have a true resting spot during some of winter’s harsh days and nights,” shared Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary on Facebook.
Of course, many communities offer curbside pickup of Christmas trees after the season is over. For that, check with your local county waste management department for specific rules.
