Once the playoff field is finalized, teams in each division will be grouped by geographic area to reduce travel for games. There will also be an emphasis on geographical grouping to increase the chances that all areas of the state have a chance to qualify for the championship games.
The new playoff seeding system is based on one used for many years in the state of Ohio. It will go into effect for the 2025 WIAA football playoffs.
