FOND DU LAC, Wis. — A Chicago man is convicted in connection with a domestic violence attack in Fond du Lac.
It took jurors less than an hour to find Lataye Smith guilty on charges of attempted first-degree homicide with a dangerous weapon, mayhem with a dangerous weapon and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Those charges are in connection with a January 2023 incident where Smith attacked a woman he had been in a relationship with in her car using a box cutter.
Smith attempted to slash the victim’s throat and repeatedly told her she was going to die.
The victim wanted to end the relationship with Smith.
He faces up to 80 years in prison when sentenced.
