GREEN LAKE, WI — A drone proves to be a lifesaver for three deer that fell through the ice on Green Lake.
A passerby alerted the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office of a doe and two fawns struggling to raise themselves up onto thin ice about two-hundred feet from shore. The lake is estimated to be about 40-feet deep in that location.
A rescue by boat was ruled out for fear of the animals going further out into the lake. Finally, the Green Lake County Drone team came in to assist. Sheriff’s Detective Josh Ward tells Action 2 News the drone helped drive the three deer closer to shore where deputies and Green Lake Police officers were able to assist the last one out.
Detective Ward also says this rescue was unique.
