Family gatherings over the Memorial Day weekend may be a bit safer than a year ago. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services, however, says families should still exercise caution despite signs of vaccination success. D-H-S Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ryan Westergaard says COVID-19 precautions should be in place for those who’ve not been vaccinated.
“So, our recommendation for people who are gathering over the holiday weekend is to maintain social distancing, wear a mask if you’re in a crowd,” Dr. Westergaard says, “And particularly this weekend if you gather outdoors it’s safer than gathering indoors.”
Dr. Westergaard also says Wisconsin is close to its goal of having nearly half of the population vaccinated.
