It’s a UW-O(possum).
A new species of opossum, discovered by University of Wisconsin Oshkosh biology professor Greg Adler, will be named in his honor.
Adler discovered the new species a decade ago in Panama.
This week, the biologist was honored in the Dec. 8 issue of American Museum Novitates, a publication of the American Museum of Natural History. The opossum is named Marmosa adleri, which is Latin for Adler’s mouse opossum.
Adler has spent nearly 30 years studying mammals around the world.
Adler joined Hayley Tenpas to talk more about the discovery and the mammal that now is named after him.
