There are more food trucks in the future of the Appleton Central Downtown Business District. The Appleton Common Council approvesa change in the Municipal Code that will allow eight food trucks to be licensed for downtown sales at one time. The current limit is four trucks. An amendment to require food trucks to park 50-feet from a brick and mortar restaurant failed. Jennifer Stephany, Executive Director of Downtown Appleton Incorporated, said before the council voted she believes such a parking restriction is fair.
Alderperson Joe Martin says a 50-feet limit is hard to enforce. He suggested a more practical approach, if one is really needed.
Opponents to the parking distance requirement also point out that food trucks tend to open when the brick and mortar eateries are closed.
