It’s one-year since an argument over a girl led to a shooting death at the Fox River Mall. On January 31, 2021, 18-year-old Dezman Ellis confronted 19-year-old Jovanni Frausto at the mall food court. During that confrontation, Ellis shot Frausto twice and fled the scene. That led to a swift response from police and a lockdown at the mall. Ellis was later found in Iowa. Ellis was initially charged with First Degree Intentional Homicide. That was reduced to 2nd Degree Intentional Homicide and 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety. Ellis will be sentenced tomorrow (Tuesday).
