(APPLETON, WI.)–Scammers targeting the Fox Valley beware. The “Fraud Squad” is setting its sites on you. The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, the Appleton Police Department, the Village of Fox Crossing Police Department and Verve Credit Union have banded together to form the “Fraud Squad”.
The effort is in response to increased fraud activity. Appleton Police Lt. Meghan Cash says the “Fraud Squad” is aiming at con artists using sophisticated techniques.
Lt. Cash also says anyone can fall victim to fraud and some schemes have a way of effectively repeating themselves.
Last year alone, nearly six-billion-dollars was lost to scammers in the U.S.
