WINNECONNE, WI — The investigation continues into a shooting incident in Winneconne that left one man injured and resulted in lockdowns at the village hall and all schools. Winneconne Police were dispatched around 1:45 Wednesday afternoon to a local dental clinic. A man came in seeking treatment for what were later determined to be gunshot wounds. Winneconne Police Chief Ben Sauriol says police soon learned what led up to the shooting.
“The victim confronted the alleged shooter at Lake Winneconne Park due to alleged road rage,” Chief Sauriol said. “During the confrontation, the victim was shot several time. The suspect left the scene in an unknown direction. The victim drove himself to the local dental clinic to seek help. The victim was subsequently take to ThedaCare in Neenah.”
Omro Police Officers, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies and Wisconsin State Troopers also responded to the scene. The victim had surgery Wednesday night and is reportedly in critical condition. The suspected shooter left the scene in a gray, mid-2000s four-door Toyota pickup truck with a light colored topper. Police describe the suspect as a white man over 50, with grayish, balding hair and decayed teeth.
