TOWN OF LITTLE SUAMICO, Wis. — A Lakeshore radio host is one of two people killed in a pair of crashes at the same location in Oconto County Tuesday.
Oconto County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to U.S. Highway 41/141 near Brown Road just after 10 a.m. to a report of a pickup truck resting against a cable barrier in the median with an unresponsive driver. The driver of an equipment truck pulled over to assist.
As first responders and deputies removed the driver of the pickup and began life-saving measures, a van struck the parked equipment truck, causing a second crash site.
The driver of the pickup, a 32-year-old man from Oconto, and the driver of the van, identified as 66-year-old Thomas Dernlan of Manitowoc, died at the scene. A passenger in the van, a 73-year-old Manitowoc woman, was airlifted to a Green Bay hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Dernlan was heard on WOMT-AM in Manitowoc under the air name Tom Craig.
