OSHKOSH, WI — The two people killed Monday in a plane crash near EAA AirVenture are identified. The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office says one of those killed is believed to be 32-year-old Sean Tommervik formerly from El Paso, Texas, who recently moved to Philadelphia. The sheriff’s office says the other occupant of the plane is believed to be 32-year-old James Sullivan formerly from Nashville, who recently relocated to Brooklyn, New York. Both were aboard a Lancair Super ES owned by Sean Tommervik and were killed when the plane crashed and burst into flames in a farm field in the Town of Nekimi south of the AirVenture grounds. The National Transportation Safety Board continues its investigation into the crash.

OSHKOSH, Wis. — Two people are dead following a plane crash south of E-A-A Airventure. A single-engine Lancair-model craft went down just south of Nekimi Avenue around 12:15 P-M. The Winnebago County Sherrif’s Department says multiple agencies responded to a farm field in the area of Old Knapp Rd and Nekimi Avenue in the Town of Nekimi. This area is near the Circle R Campgrounds. Once on scene, responders discovered that the plane was fully engulfed in fire. The Winnebago County Coroner was dispatched minutes later. The fatal crash came on the first day of AirVenture 2024 The names of the deceased occupants and all other plane identifiers are being withheld at this time pending notification to the family. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
