EAA AirVenture 2024 is currently taking place in Oshkosh. The weeklong annual event brings a slew of demonstrations, air shows, unique planes, and more! WHBY is broadcasting live all week and interviewing the pilots, patrons, and creators who venture to AirVenture each year. On Monday, Your News Now host Jonathan Krause had the opportunity to speak with the owner of the Elvis Plane, also known as the Elvis Mobile, Jimmy Webb.
A few years ago, Jimmy Webb, host of YouTube’s popular channel Jimmy’s World, purchased the plane and began the process of turning it into a road-worthy mode of transportation.
“The Elvismobile is a 1962 Lockheed Jetstar that Elvis owned in ’76 just before he passed away. And we decided the best way to save it and preserve it is to make it mobile so the whole world can see it and enjoy it.”
Webb continued, speaking of the restoration of the plane:
“The inside of it is my favorite part. We have not touched it, we have not modified it, we’ve only vacuumed it and whipped some of the dust off the wood. Otherwise, the inside of it is exactly the way it was. And it had been closed up for 41 years, since 1983, and I’m just blown away by how well it was preserved and frankly how well this whole project turned out.”
