APPLETON, Wis. — A Supreme Court action adds more confusion to a situation facing public schools this fall.
On Friday, the high court upheld a lower court injunction blocking the Biden-Harris administration from enforcing new rules on discrimination based on sex.
The changes to Title IX would have a major affect on public schools, making them de facto enforcers of the regulations.
Appleton Area School District Assistant Superintendent Mike Hernandez says one of the big changes is that students and parents don’t even have to make a formal complaint about treatment in schools…………..
Last month, the Oshkosh Area school board failed to approve discrimination policy changes that would have put it in compliance with the new Title IX regulations. Board member Tim Hess believes it’s not the role of school administrators to enforce federal policies…………
Failing to meet Title IX standards is a risk for public school districts, as they could lose their federal funding. For the Oshkosh Area School District, that would be $5 million a year.
