DOOR COUNTY, WI — The Door County Sheriff’s Office releases body cam video in the case of a runaway pig that deputies shot and killed when the animal could not be captured. Sheriff Tammy Sternard says in a post on the department’s Facebook page says a review of the incident has been concluded. That post goes on to say factors that went into the decision to dispatch the 300-pound pig including its proximity to the highway, the same of day, the number of times the animal entered into the path of highway traffic and the number of unsuccessful attempts to take the pig alive. Based on the risks to public safety the actions of the deputy who shot and killed the pig were justified. Sheriff Sternard also posted that sheriff’s office staff and their families have been threatened on the department’s Facebook page. The comment section has now been disabled.
