OUTAGAMIE COUNTY, Wis. — Whooping cough is on the rise in Outagamie County.
The county’s health department reports eight confirmed cases of pertussis so far this year, with all eight coming from children. Seven of the eight have been reported since the start of August.
Symptoms of whooping cough can include a runny nose, sneezing, a low-grade fever and a cough that can become violent and uncontrollable.
Health officials encourage anyone exhibiting symptoms to get tested and to get vaccinated if they haven’t already.
