Today is the last day on the job for the longtime leader of the Kaukauna police department.
Chief John Manion is retiring after 13-and-a-half years in the top job and 34 years on the city’s force.
He says over that time they’ve been able to expand the number of officers and add a K-9 unit. He says they’ve hired more patrol and created an extensive evidence program.
Manion says he’s most proud of make-up of the department and how well everyone meshes together. He’s planning to spend time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and The 1,000 Islands Environmental Center in Kaukauna. He might also get into remodeling houses.
Assistant Chief Jamie Graff will be the new police chief.
