Several counties and cities in northeast Wisconsin are dropping their “safer at home” orders.
Brown County was the first, and Outagamie County, the City of Appleton, Winnebago County, Calumet County, Menasha, Manitowoc County, and De Pere followed suit.
Appleton Mayor Jake Woodford says it’s deeply frustrating and disappointing that the Legislature and governor won’t work together, in the interest of statewide health and clarity.
Appleton Public Health Officer Kurt Eggebrecht says the Supreme Court’s ruling didn’t end the pandemic, and they’ll continue to monitor and respond to the public health emergency.
Brown County Health Officer Anna Destree rescinding her order, because of concerns it wouldn’t withstand legal challenges.
Destree is urging businesses to follow guidelines from the CDC and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, when they decide to reopen.
She says Brown County is still in the middle of a pandemic, and even though the order isn’t in place, people need to remember that and be careful.
