Freedom won’t move forward with a proposal for a new Town Hall.
Eighty-nine percent of people at a special town hall meeting voted against a nearly $10 million project. About 530 people were there.
The town was planning a facility for administrative offices, EMS, and the police and fire departments.
Planning Director Steve Brueggeman says 60 percent of voters preferred that option in an advisory referendum last August. The town board gave people two choices with that referendum, and 40 percent picked a larger, more expensive project.
Brueggeman says the town board will have to decide what to do next. He believes members could consider a different plan to just build a fire station.
About a week ago, Freedom voters also shot down a $56 million referendum for a new high school.
