Starting today (August 12), Seymour will be celebrating Burger Fest, a festival that raises funds for scholarships and community projects in the “Home of the Hamburger.”
Burger Fest began in 1989 to celebrate the beginning of the burger in Seymour in 1885. According to the Home of the Hamburger website, a man given the nickname “Hamburger Charlie” was the historical figure who invented the hamburger in Seymour back in 1885.
The festival events will start tonight and take place in two locations – downtown Seymour on Depot St. on August 12 and Rock Ledge School and Park on August 11 and 12. At Rock Ledge you can enjoy hot air balloons, with balloon ascensions beginning at 6pm. Following the balloon ascensions, stick around to see the balloons glow in the dark. Entrance and parking for the event is free, and food and drinks will be available as well.
Burger Fest will be hosted in downtown Seymour on Saturday, where you can enjoy the World’s Largest Hamburger Parade, the Bun Run, a Kids’ Run, live music, games for the kids, and even a burger eating contest. Included with your Saturday entrance fee are a car show and the opportunity to walk through the Railroad Depot and Community Museum.
