Fired for the wrong reason

Wednesday, Jun, 19 2013

Melanie shaved her head in support of her sister who is fighting cancer and lost her hair to treatments.

Melanie is now without a job because of it.

She works at a hair salon as a stylist and her employer told her a stylist with a bald head frightens customers away.

They told her to wear a wig.

Melanie said what's the point of showing support for my sister if I'm wearing a wig?
They fired her.

We'll discuss as part of the Wednesday PhilCast.

Skimpy top on a young girl; not your place TSA

Tuesday, Jun, 18 2013

Another TSA investigation has been opened,
This time it involves an agent at LAX who told a 15-year-old girl to 'cover herself up.'

Here is a photo her dad took before writing about the incident on his blog.

I was expecting much worse before I saw this picture after only reading about the story.

Then I saw this photo and said to myself, "That's it? This is what all the fuss is about?"

What am I missing here?

Seems by today's standards that's a pretty tame outfit for a 15 year old.

And my point here is that, as a parent, whether or not you think this is appropriate attire for your kid is up to YOU, not the TSA. Agent was out of line IMHO.

Miss Wisconsin this week

Monday, Jun, 17 2013

In addition to "HowzYer Weekend?" on the Monday PhilCast, I have some beauty pageant news today.

First of all, we had a great clunker of an answer to a question from Miss Utah during last night's Miss USA contest. I'll play that audio and of course that gives me an opportunity to once again enjoy a blast from the past, Miss South Carolina and her answer all about 'education and such."

Then there's Miss Iowa making news for another pageant first at Miss America when it rolls around this fall. She'll be the first contestant to compete without two full arms.

And Miss Wisconsin is underway in Oshkosh this week.
The finals are Saturday.
Here they are!

Remember I was one of the judges back in early spring when they crowned Miss Fond du Lac.

We'll try to have her or one of the other contestants on the PhilCast later this week.

Frosty reception

Friday, Jun, 14 2013

So here's the latest knucklehead to lose his job over a goofy photo posted on the interwebs that has gone viral.

This time it's Wendy's apologizing.

Last week it was Taco Bell, when that picture of an employee licking stacked taco shells went viral.

Sometimes going viral is not a good thing!

Special Father's Day PhilCast coming up Friday, when much of the first portion of the show will be devoted to dad stories and surveys regarding his big day Sunday.

I give you the tongue patch

Thursday, Jun, 13 2013

Yup, if I know one thing about the people of this great country of ours it is this; we're lazy.

We want the easy way out more often than not, and that includes losing weight.

I give you the latest...

I know, gross, right?

It's not in this country yet but you better believe it's on its way here.

Wanna lose weight the new, hip way? Get one of these stapled into your pie hole. It's not rocket science really. I'll talk about it some more on the PhilCast today, but basically the concept here is that this thing is so irritating that you won't want to eat.

Yikes.
