They removed ALL his teeth!

Thursday, Apr, 11 2013

So there he is....
Meet Christopher Crist, a 21-year-old from Indy who went to the dentist to have three teeth removed and left with none!

Yikes.

Earlier this week we were just talking about dentists because I was at mine yesterday getting a routine cleaning.

I am pleased to announce that I left my dentist's office with all my teeth still in place. But stories like this one give a little more credibility to Reggie's insane fear of dentists in general. Maybe he's got a point after hearing about this poor guy. More about it on the Thursday PhilCast show.

Guns, guns, guns

Wednesday, Apr, 10 2013

Guns, guns and more guns...the topic could dominate the PhilCast on Wednesday.

Congress is making progress toward at least some sort of compromise on tightening background checks for purchasers of guns.

CBS news will have the latest on that at 3:00. Afterward, we'll chat about it.

And then there are the stories about two fatal shootings....in both cases a four-year-old pulled the trigger.

Kaukauna schools finally get it right

Tuesday, Apr, 9 2013

So we can now refer to the Kaukauna school bullying story as actual bullying?
I thought that's what it was from the start when I first brought up the story on the PhilCast.

I'm still not sure what the initial news conference we covered on the show was supposed to be all about. Remember at the time the district trying to explain it away?

It came off to me as the district basically saying this wasn't actual bullying the dad posted about on Facebook....it was just some rough play in gym class.

Now a turnabout....with Sup. Mark Duerwaechter saying there was indeed bullying involved.

After updating the school board last night, he now says it's been a very difficult matter for the families and the school district. He says they'll use the experience to make the district a better one.

That's the bottom line here....addressing an issue and trying to come up with ways to help make the situation better for the kids....not dodging an issue....which that whole initial news conference sure smelled of to me.

Duerwaechter now says he hopes to start a student assistance program that would reach out to victims of bullying and also students with alcohol or drug problems.
Kudos on that....and I am sure the dad involved in the original story must be feeling better about the whole thing now after the admission by the school system that his kid was indeed bullied.

National Championship Night

Monday, Apr, 8 2013

Such high hopes when it all began weeks ago with the filling out of our brackets in the PhilCast Bracket Challenge.

My hopes of winning it all went out the window in about the second round I think. But at least I take comfort in knowing no matter what happens tonight in the title game I have finished ahead of my producer Reggie, who takes such pride in attempting to beat me at any contest we take part in.

As for who will win/wear the PhilCast champion's sweatshirt tonight, I'm not exactly sure yet because of the points system used, but it looks like it will come down to two players.

bigd is in the lead with 200 points.

However, he has selected Gonzaga to win it all. They're not playing tonight.

Klauerpowe is in second place with 182 points and like me, has picked Louisville to win it all. So that must mean if Louisville wins tonight then Klauerpowe scores some points and most likely will overtake the top position to win it all. But if Michigan wins then neither one scores any points and bigd takes home the shirt and bragging rights.

"Restaurant Impossible" coming to Wisconsin

Friday, Apr, 5 2013

For the first time ever, Chef Robert Irvine is bringing his Food Network show "Restaurant Impossible" to Wisconsin and it will happen next week down in Twin Lakes, just south of Lake Geneva.

Today on the PhilCast I'll chat with the man who owns the place that will get the makeover from Chef Robert and his team. We'll talk right after the 3:30 news.
